Refusal: Short on ammo
18/11/11 || Smalley
I was expecting to hear some neo-thrash when I saw a band name like “Refusal” paired with a title like “Short on ammo” (you just get an instinct for these things after a while). Indeed, according to Metallum reviews of some of their older stuff, they were neo-thrash, but seem to have transitioned to a bland, brutal-death/grind style for this new demo, with Napalm Death-ish speed, but without their hooks. The growling is generic, Sauron-y stuff, and I disliked the annoyingly shill shrieking (though they used that style less often, thankfully). The production’s fine for a demo, but besides the rare decent riff, the music just doesn’t give me anything to latch onto. That’s all I (or anyone else) can say for this one.
5/10: Don’t quit yer day jobs anytime soon.
After going thru that crap, you most likely wanna read something way more interesting. You do, admit it.
